How to get to Roy & Jeryl’s place

I will start you out on Rt 17 in the town of Thompson.

I use 17 from the Southeast (New York City I-87 direction). Some of you may come in from the Northwest (Binghamton I-81 direction)

Use exit 104 off 17 to 17B West, You will be on the Northern edge of Monticello, NY. Start logging your miles here for reference points, (I use GM miles, which may vary from Ford or Rolls Royce miles.)

On your right you will see the Monticello Raceway, It was also to be the Monticello Casino, but that’s another story. The road becomes 55 MPH most of the way until Bethel, A few 50 MPH & 40 MPH speed traps in between to watch for.

At 7 miles out from Monticello you will be in the Town of Bethel, and at the intersection of 17B and 55E This is the Village of White Lake.

While sitting at the light look out your right window there you will see the El Monaco Motel , made famous by Elliot Tiber (The man who brought Woodstock to Bethel in 69)

If you took a right on 55E ( DON’T DO IT NOW ) in about 1 mile you would soon come Vassamers General store and now Woodstock Museum, on the left in the village of Kauneonga Lake at the intersection of 55E and White Lake Rd. If you veered left on White Lake Rd, a little further on the left, you would come to the beginning of West Shore Rd, taking that will bring you to the back side of the Woodstock site. But we are not going that way today.

By now the light is green, watch your speed in White Lake, By the way that big wet thing on your right is White Lake.

Continuing on 17B in about 3 more miles, (10 from Monticello) on your right you will be at the Hurd Road intersection, If you are going to the site, take a right here and follow the road till you get to West Shore Rd, and on your right will be the monument.

If you are going to Roy & Jeryl’s stay on 17B, in 1 more mile you will pass Perry Rd. on your right, about ½ mile past that (11.5 total from Monticello) on the right, you will see Yasgur Rd. Be nice to the person directing you in, and follow the parking directions. Kick back and enjoy yourself to the fullest.
