Woodstock was not the only world event to happen in the summer of 1969, In July there was another event that had the world watching; the first man stepped onto the moon. These words are inscribed on the lunar module plaque:
"Here Men From Planet Earth First Set Foot Upon the Moon.
July 1969 A.D. We Came In Peace For All Mankind."
That is one piece of history that will never be forgotten by the people of the world, and it is doubtful that anyone will be able to fence it in, pave it over and make money off of it by turning it into a tourist attraction.
A sad day in world history will come in the spring of 2003 when we will loose a piece of history where another plaque was placed to commemorate an event in 1969 on a 38-acre field of humanity coming together to celebrate peace. The site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival will be changed forever, Fenced in, paved over, all in the name of making a tourist attraction for profit.
Please forgive me for rewriting Neil Armstrong’s quote of his famous step onto the moon, into something to fit today’s treatment of the Woodstock Site:
That's one small step for business-man . . .
one giant loss for mankind
