<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Woodstock 94 photos from Smiler & WayneG>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Woodstock 94, My first experience with a mass gathering that “Just Happened”. I was in need of a break from money and wife troubles. There was an announcement on WPYX our local Rock station, There was a need for security people to manage a concert site at the original Woodstock Festival site. A Rock concert up close, Cash to be made, Get away from the wife’s nagging for a few days, Too good to be true. I took the eight hour instant rent a cop training, bought the necessary camping gear, ready willing and able. Well it was to good to be true. The promoters backed out, the security company did not need us any more. Here I stand with my sleeping bag, back pack, bug juice, less money in my pocket, and a louder nagging wife. Awe what the hell, I was only fifteen with strict parents during the first Woodstock event, I’m not going to miss this one!

Palm Marker: Our guide to our camp in the distant sunset. It wasn’t our marker but it was close enough. There were thousands of cars on the hill.

Tee shirts for sale: I bought my first tie-died shirt from these folks. It turns out they are from Schenectady NY just a mile or so away from where I live. It reminds me of the road trip I took to California, and parked on a beach north of LA for the night, My friend and I went to a VW bus parked nearby to ask the folks in it for some party materials. Turns out they were from Amsterdam NY just the other side of my home town.

EMS: When I saw the medical folks here I realized this was more then small gathering. I could only think of my friends who are EMT types who went to the “Pepsi Concert” in Saugerties, NY to work their buts off. They never did see much of the show, they were to busy treating OD’s, broken bones and lacerations.

Garden Bus: It was a beautiful sight to see this colorful bus park near us on the top of the hill. The people inside were just as colorful and beautiful. You should see it with the wings on.

Clouds coming in: Things got a little dicey this day as the weather deteriorated, a view from our camp site on the top of the hill on Max’s land. The Palm marker to the left helped guide us back to the car. One hell of a thunder storm broke loose soon after this photo. We were down in the Bowl running toward the car a bolt of lightning crashed down somewhere near us, we didn’t stop to figure where. Its a good thing there weren’t tall towers this year. We made it to the car drenched. We sat out the lightning wind and rain in the car. We watched all sorts of things blow by coolers clothing tarps and tents.

After the storm: The skys lightened the sun beams poked through the clouds, many tents were no more, twisted poles and riped canvas was all that remained, some disappeared all together. As far as I know no one was hurt but every one got wet just like the first time.

MUD: Those of you from 69 remember this stuff. They spread hay near the stage but the thick red mud came right through it. Some places it was half a foot deep. Mud men slid down the hills covered head to toe in the soil of Yasgur’s Field 25 years after it happened the first time. On a nail next to my computer is a pair of sneakers that are coated with dry red mud. They have not been worn since this day. They remain to remind me of how beautiful Max’s land and it’s mud really is!

Spontaneous Music: You find yourself at a sacred site with thousands of friendly happy people and it seems that music and dancing has a tendency to break out. I believe some of these folks are from the Garden Bus, others joined in. I’ve never seen anything like it. Everywhere you looked there were people singing, dancing and playing instruments.

Sunset: Here no explanation should be necessary. It’s just beautiful!

Ghost of Woodstock Past: Its kind of a freaky photo. I took it at dusk walking up the hill from the stage, at the crest stood this outline of a Woodstocker and his Peace Sign on a pole, Was this real or was I hallucinating?

Teepee: When I was sitting down near the stage this Teepee was located near the monument, every so often a blue and yellow flame would emit from the opening in the top of the Tee Pee. I gota find out what they were smokin that night.

Unkown Bus: These folks were parked next to the Garden bus. Later after the rain they were stuck in the mud. A bunch of folks helped to push this bus and many other mud stuck Woodstockers out of the field.

Where to Go in 94: You may notice this sign has been here before. It points to anywhere you may need to go while your here. I’m sure it’ll be back again.

I had many more photos from 94 and 95, Hell if I can find em though . Hey if you have any of your own that you want to share please put them in the incoming directory with a text file describing the photos. I have higher resolution versions of my photos for the asking. These low res. ones are easier on the download times. See Ya on Max’s Land in Bethel August of every year, Look for the old hippie with the carved walking stick. WayneG wayneg@nycap.rr.com

Guess What, I did some cleaning on my back porch, I found my missing Woodstock 94 photos. You may find them boring but maybe if you were there You’ll find yourself. Look in the directory Woodstock 94b.

How I ended up @ Woodstock As mentioned above this is a photo of my security guard handbook along with a message I received at my regular job about the cancellation of the OFFICIAL event. Hell No We WILL GO!!!

My Chevy: This is how I got to Bethel, My 86 Z24 with Tent attachments on the top of the hill on Max’s Field, (At first I didn’t know whose field I was parked on.) 170 thousand miles and its still ticking today.

In the Beginning: We arrived somewhat early on. This is a view down the “Bowl” To the left are the vendors, upper right is the stage area. Within a few hours this field was covered in Humanity.

The First Stage: During the four day period I was in Bethel The stage metamorphisized from this, three times until it spanned three flat bed tractor trailers.

Come on down for the show: Early on people in the Bowl were sparse. Maybe the were at that “Pepsi Thing” in Saugerties.

Is this Melanie ?: My photos are not very good coming from a disposable camera. I believe this is Melanie, If I’m wrong please tell me.

Local Talent?: Forgive me for not documenting who was on stage. Maybe you have a better clue as to who this is.

More Colorful Busses: As they are.

The Garden Bus: Great Artwork.

The Garden Bus & big bucks Bus: Someone had some serious cash to bring the bus in the rear to Bethel.

A Song and a Celebration: This is the most amazing place I’ve ever been to in my life.

The Bowl from the Monument: Things were starting to fill in. This was still early in the first day of an event that had been canceled..

A few more friends come to the celebration: It was starting to look like 25 years before.

New stage: A view of the second stage in use with the blue tarp and the third stage under construction.

Mud people return in 94: Remember photos of 69. Same place New time. From the bottom of the bowl looking up the hill.

One Mother of a storm: It’s a hell of a different view of a thunder storm in the middle of a unprotected field then that view from a window in your own home.

Rain or Shine @ Woodstock 94: The rain came down, The wind rearranged most everything, The mud was ankle deep, but the people stayed and the show went on .

NYS Copter: I wonder if the Gov. came for the show?

Is this Mountain?: On the Big stage. I was told this was the band Mountain. I may have been told wrong.

Young Woodstocker Swatting Bubbles: If it came out better you would see a young woodstocker on her dads shoulders swatting at soap bubbles.

To Us In This Time… Bring Back the Peace & Music of Woodstock 1969 WayneG
